Long Time No See - 2 days and 1 year before leap year

It’s a shame that I can’t make the excuse of a leap year-time warp for my gap in Poetry Exchange posts.  But in that meantime, revolutionary Editor-in-Chief Jake Lans and myself have transferred poetry editorship into Julia Velazquez Cross’s spunky, capable hands, a transition that has enabled me to spend senior year reading and writing poetry and persevering not to bungle ballet.

With regards to the Exchange, I would like to thank my colleague, the tireless poet-translator Paul-Henri Campbell, for featuring our poetic-centric efforts on the Das Gedicht blog.  Translation is not unlike snapping and developing a photograph of a photograph in a dark room and being in hermetic dialogue with oneself and a page – or as Campbell writes, creating “a poem based on poem.”  The detailed consideration of the process is indeed a labor of patience and abundance.

Today celebrates the One Year (and three weeks and three days) Anniversary of the Poetry Exchange Blog launch.  May the poems ripen like figs – symbols of prosperity and wealth, but also, as was written, the first textile used by the first couple after they had their apple.  May our fig tree bear provocative fruit.

Long live the poet’s song,
Sabrina Barreto
